Use a current media (movie, song, documentary, show, etc.; media should be created after 2000). Answer the following questions: describe the crime or crimes in the media
Students will write a critical review of a book, movie, documentary, TV show, or other popular media work that addresses some aspect of crime and punishment. Students should be sure to describe the crime or penological issue in the media source, how it relates to course content, and what they’ve learned from class that informs their perspective.
Consider these questions as you craft your review: Do you think this is an accurate depiction of criminological phenomena or has it been overly dramatized? Why or why not? What have you learned from class that informs your perspective?
Reviews should integrate at least 3 readings from the course as well as 3 other external scholarly sources. Papers should be 750-1000 words and use American Sociology Association (ASA) in-text citation style and include a reference page with ASA formatting.
Papers should be posted to Canvas. Please upload them as a Word Document
Your papers will be graded on answering all components of the rubric, your ability to accurately summarize the main arguments and evidence presented in the readings; as well as, your ability to critically analyze, connect, and evaluate course content.
