Assignment – snyder 2

Assignment 10
Assignment – Primary Aggressor Determination
Instructions: Watch the 2 videos of the police stop in the Gabby Petito case (7.3) (I put the order (with time stamps) that I think it would be most helpful to watch the videos in). And look over the chart about determining the primary aggressor on pg. 297 and the bulleted points on pgs. 296-297of the Police Response reading.
Responses: Bullet point responses are fine/preferred.
1. Do you think they identified the correct primary aggressor in the situation? Why or Why not?
* Make note of aspects of identifying a primary aggressor they did or did not seem to follow.
* Talk about elements of the chart on pg. 297 and the bulleted points on pgs. 296-297 of the Police Response reading to support your determination.
2. In general, what potential issues do you see with the officers’ response to the stop? And/or the officers’ approach to the incident? (this does not have to be related to identifying the primary aggressor, just asking about general issues).
3. What things do you think the officers did well during the stop?
4. What were some possible signs that Gabby may have been a victim of abuse that might have been missed?
Assignment 9
Assignment – Snyder 3
Instructions: Read “A Superhero’s Kneecaps” from No Visible Bruises and the Police Response reading in the “Readings” folder.
Responses: Responses to each question should be a minimum of 4 complete sentences. This is a minimum requirement, you will probably need more than this to effectively address the questions.
A Superhero’s Kneecaps
1. In the Police Response reading, it mentions the importance of specialized domestic violence training for officers. They list a number of topics that are often covered but one that is not mentioned is DV hostage situations. Snyder, discusses these type of situations in “A Superhero’s Kneecaps”. How are DV hostage situations different than traditional hostage situations? Why would it be important for officers to receive training related to DV hostage situations? If DV related hostage situations seem to be the most common types of hostage situations, why don’t police receive more training in how to approach them?
2. In the Police Response reading, it discusses primary aggressor determination and common criteria officers should consider when making the determination of who the primary aggressor is in a situation (bulleted points on pgs. 296-297). Keep in mind that the primary aggressor is not always the one that looks the strongest and the victim may not always be the one that calls the police first. At the end of “A Superhero’s Kneecaps” (starting on pg. 189), Snyder describes an incident she observed while on a ride along in Montana. Do you think the officers in that incident arrested the primary aggressor? Why or why not? (for this response talk about the criteria that officers did or did not use to justify your answer).
Responses: No word limit requirement. But need to be enough to effectively address questions.

Assignment 7
Assignment – Snyder 2
Instructions: Read No Visible Bruises chapters for week 6. The chapter “And then they’ll pray” is about the homicides. It is about the day of the homicide and what happened during the event itself. “I can’t live here anymore” is about the impact the incident had on the Michelle and Rocky’s family. There are no questions about these two chapters but I would still encourage you to read it to get the whole context of the story.
Responses: Responses to each question should be a minimum of 4 complete sentences. This is a minimum requirement, you may need more than this to effectively address some questions.

* If Michelle came to you and this was the score she had, given what you know about her situation (e.g., barriers), what recommendations would you make to try to help her safely leave the relationship? Provide 2 recommendations, with an explanation for why you think they would be effective.
