1. In today’s news cycle are they reporting incidents of violence, both locally and nationally? Are the news outlets on TV, social media, or printed newspapers capturing the releality of violence from a neutral or bias prespective? Is it possible to determine types of victims that the violence is perpetrated upon, and trends?
2. Studies have shown that 12.9% of every 1000 persons do not report that they were a victim of a violent crime. Does the newer National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIMBRS) address the issues with underreported crime statistices vice the older Unified Crime Report (UCR)? Can you recommend another way to measure violence statistics in order to reduce underreported incidents, why or why not?
