Drawing in Proportion
We learned about some of the different models for drawing the human form according to “ideal,” classical proportions – in ancient Greece, this meant that the figure should be the equivalent of 8 “heads” tall. Now you will learn about how to draw a figure in classical proportions, kinesthetically (that is, by trying it yourself). There are a ton of “how to“ videos out there – here are a couple:

What you will need:
• A plain sheet of paper (unlined)
• A drawing tool (pen, pencil, marker…)
• A ruler or straight edge
Instructions:
• Using the formula of the canon of proportions, draw one ideal human figure (the example above shows three – you only need to draw one).
• The figure should be 8 heads high, frontal view, and does not need to be highly detailed. Think mannequin, not realistic portrait.
• I want to see your construction lines/measurement lines showing the 8 segments. I want to be able to tell that you attempted to draw this by hand, flaws and all. Do not trace!
• It is up to you if you decide to place a gender upon it. Do not use fashion or super hero proportions, as they tend to be 10 heads high. Do not draw a stick figure
• Sign Nyriah West and date the front of the drawing so that it’s visible.
