I already chose and submitted Bob Marley for my character. The paper MUST be about BOB MARLEY.
Love this choice! Personally, I think it might be more fitting to look at Bob Marley from a Phenomenological perspective because it focuses on how people feel alive, which seems appropriate given the influence of his music. But you can absolutely choose a cognitive approach (you would need to select a specific one) instead, if you decide it would be more interesting. Just let me know what you officially decide! Description in Syllabus
You will write a 5–7-page scholarly paper, worth 60 points, examining a historical figure or fictional character (e.g. created in film, television, theatre) from the perspective of a personality theory of your choice. The paper must include description of the general concepts of the theory and background information about the character in sufficient detail to support your application of the theory. It must be written in APA format and will require you to find at least two professional references outside of your textbook.
Further Clarification
If you choose a fictional character as the subject of your paper, they cannot be a fantasy character (e.g. wizard, werewolf, superhero, cartoon character, etc.). Your chosen personality theory must be one we have discussed (or are scheduled to discuss) in class.
The paper will include three parts: detailed background information on the character, descriptive summary of the personality theory you have selected, and appropriate application of the personality theory to the character. Please also be sure to provide an introduction and conclusion, in which your opinions/reflections are encouraged. Factors to consider in your application section might include conflicts, developmental experiences, motivation, effects of learning, relationship influences, etc. If you have question as to whether you have picked a workable subject or if are applying a theory effectively, please ask. I am happy to give feedback before your due date if it is requested in a reasonable amount of time.
You are expected to maintain academic integrity and complete your own work. This expectation extends to the inappropriate use of AI technology, such as ChatGPT. Your work will be sent through a plagiarism checker, turnitin, when you submit to Canvas. Evidence of plagiarism will influence your grade and could result in a referral to the Dean of Arts and Sciences for disciplinary action.
Please use APA Publications Manual (7th ed.) style guidelines, double space, with 12-point fonts and one-inch margins. This should include proper use of in-text citations and an accompanying reference page. A link to the Purdue Owl, an online resource for using APA Style, is available on Canvas.
The required 5-7 pages must be obtained without counting your title or reference page. You must use at least two professional references (excluding our textbook) for your theory. Professional references include primary sources (e.g. journal articles) and secondary sources (e.g. textbooks). Non-professional and internet resources should still be listed in your reference section, but they may only be used to obtain information about the character you are using, not the theory from which you are analyzing.
