Background:
Nearly 80% of adults will have at least one type of the human papillomavirus (HPV) in their lifetime. Some types of HPV may lead to the development of certain types of cancer (ex. cervical cancer, head and neck cancer).
The HPV vaccine can protect against cancers caused by HPV. The CDC recommends that all 11 year-old girls and boys should get two doses of the HPV vaccine.
The pharmaceutical company that makes the HPV vaccine has developed commercials to promote the use of the HPV vaccine. The commercials are targeted towards parents of girls and boys ages 11 to 12.
