THE NURSE LEADER AS KNOWLEDGE WORKER
Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.
Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.
The Assignment:
Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.
Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
Include one slide that visually represents the role of a nurse leader as knowledge worker.
Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.
Develop a 5- to 6-slide PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:· Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.· Ably synthesize the literature and course resources to present a clear and accurate explanation of the 2 concepts….The presentation clearly and accurately explains the concept of a knowledge worker. The presentation clearly and accurately defines and explains nursing informatics. This criterion is linked to a Learning Outcome. Develop a graphic visual representation of the role of the nurse leader as a knowledge worker. On the slide, include an explanation of the role. Present the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from the data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ replies. The presentation clearly and thoroughly includes the hypothetical scenario originally shared in the Discussion Forum, including a detailed and accurate examination of the data used, how the data might be accessed/collected, and the knowledge that could be derived from the data. …The presentation incorporates peer feedback. My discussion post:
The Application of Data to Problem-Solving
In my hypothetical scenario, there is an issue with patient care in a hospital. Since the hospital recently switched to a new electronic health records system, patient satisfaction ratings for the quality of treatment have declined by 20%. The hospital’s management team is considering a patient feedback system to improve patient satisfaction (Febres-Ramos & Mercado-Rey,2020).
Patient feedback surveys, patient satisfaction levels, and patient records are just a few data types that could be used in this situation. Many methods exist to gather and access this data, including focus groups, interviews, and online surveys. The electronic health information system also provides access to the data (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). Understanding how the new electronic health record system influences patient satisfaction, what aspects of care need improvement, and what aspects of care are most significant to patients are just a few of the insights that could be gained from this data (Nagle et al., 2017). The information could also be used to identify trends or patterns in patient satisfaction.
The nurse leader could use clinical reasoning and judgment to assess the data gathered to learn more about the patient experience. The nurse leader could create patient-focused initiatives to raise patient satisfaction levels and raise the standard of care based on these findings. The nurse leader could then use the data gathered to assess the initiatives’ impact and make changes as necessary to guarantee their success. The nurse leader could also use the data to pinpoint areas that needed improvement and develop plans to deal with them (Febres-Ramos & Mercado-Rey, 2020). The nurse leader can then ensure that the projects successfully achieve the objectives of improving patient satisfaction and the quality of care.
