This news story is not an in-depth/enterprise story on an ongoing issue, but a short (500 to 700 words, double-spaced) news story that covers a new development in your beat (or provide an update on something that has been going on). In any case, timeliness should be one of the news values reflected in this story.
If this is a short profile story, it still should reflect timeliness news value (or answer the question: Why you are writing this story now?).
When thinking about story ideas, it is essential to evaluate in advance how accessible sources for this story will be within the timeframe that we have.
You will need at least two human sources and at least one non-human source (public records, written sources, data, previous news coverage, etc. – see Rich. Chapter 4 for more examples of non-human sources) for this story.
You will interview your sources either in person (while maintaining social distance and other safety measures) or via phone (Zoom, Face Time, etc. would also be fine). If these ways of communication are not available, you can interview your sources via email/social media.
