How might theatre not only reflect political and economic philosophies such as liberalism,
socialism, and communism of the late 19th’s century but also help to proliferate their
ideologies through performance? Where might such ideological intensions in performance fall
short (i.e. become exploitative, etc.)? What can this inform us about performance today?
What are the pros and cons of Romanticism? How does comparing this philosophical
movement to other movements that came before and after it (humanism, neoclassicism,
naturalism, realism, symbolism…) help to highlight Romanticism’s strengths and weaknesses,
